Thursday Thankful
- BIG news – we are taking a trip to Detroit for another CP play-date this weekend. Oh, please, please pray that we get it, this time. Three’s a charm, right? We didn’t catch them in Muskegon, we weren’t able to get together with my old schoolchum in Indiana, but maybe Detroit?! I’m all in a tizzy emotionally, today. I really want Lydia to get them before she’s too old and it’s problematic! But to be honest? Driving all the way across the state alone with five children makes me nervous. So please pray for us. On more than one level.
- I’m grateful for Brian getting all of the side-work jobs done for a while, again. And a favorable quarterly meeting at his work yesterday (with a nice profit-sharing surprise for us). And for cold weather to keep us in cozy and warm so we don’t spend as much $$, at the same time!
- Healthy critters and healthy kidlets. I’ve even almost kicked that never-ending cough of mine. I’m so glad. Except that I want chicken pox. Which I don’t consider ‘getting sick’, I consider it ‘getting immune’. Which is WAY more important.
- Cold. It. Is. Cold. But the more it freezes/thaws, over and over, the worse the roads are, the worse the ice is, the worse the critter pens are. I’m glad it’s just cold, now. That’s the bummer about lower Michigan. When I lived in the U.P., it got cold and STAYED cold. Down here it’s… sloppy, a lot. And I just like it to be cold in winter, and thaw when spring hits – not before!
- I… had a WHOLE BUNCH of things to put on this grateful when I woke up this morning, and weirdly, as I sat down to type it, they all flew out of my head… maybe I should add on, as the day progresses?

Wait a minute! YOU “need” to get the chicken pox, too? I thought you were only trying for your kids. So, did you get the vaccine as a child or no?
I got the pox as a kid (I was eleven). BUT… adults also need re-exposure (and usually get it thru their kids), or they’ll get shingles as adults. Because the re-exposure you get when your kids get the chickenpox is like a booster that keeps you safe when you’re elderly.
The reason you see all the signs in front of Walgreens for shingles shots is because for the past 12 years, they’ve been giving children chickenpox vaccines… so the adults/grandparents didn’t get the ‘booster’ of re-exposure from their children/grandchildren. And that’s why shingles is on the rise. You pull something out of Yehovah’s grand scheme, and everything else is thrown out of whack.
Ironically, the shingles shot has only a 50% chance of working, and note that MOST of the children getting the outbreaks now are vaccinated children – those vaccines are NOT effective, and actually are causing MORE problems in the children in the long run.
We’re doing it all the old fashioned way. I need the pox for my un-immunized children, and for re-exposure for Brian and I.
Gotcha. Must have missed that earlier if you mentioned it. My son (who had chicken pox at age 6) got shingles at age 17. On his head lol. Dr. said the virus that causes genital herpes is related to the shingles virus. Therefore, we teased my son about having the “face herps”. He’s never happy when we tell that story to girlfriends
Good luck catching CP! We got the vaccs; according to our ped. TX has pretty much gotten rid of the virus (also measles). I don’t know about that, but no one I know has been exposed…..so I worry.
yep shingles is herpes zoster… yucky gross nasty herpes (including cold sores) is herpes simplex. they are in the same viral family. but not just the virus can cause shingles.. you can also have it activated by stress or even medication.
wishing you best of luck Anna. And while you don’t consider it ‘being sick’… heh they *will* be sick for sure! I don’t wish it on anyone when they are older.. but it must be done.
Keep in mind-Shingles is PAINFUL! I had it when I was 27yrs old because I was REALLY stressed out from losing my job and worried I would have no way to pay my bills.
Wow…I really hope you do not get it. It sucks.
