  • Day Twenty-Eight:  When is Rosh Ha’Shana?

People always wonder when the Feasts begin.  And I agree, it can be REALLY confusing.  That’s mostly because we forsook Yehovah’s calendar for the Catholic one.  Never a good idea.  So when Leviticus 23 says that the first day of the seventh month is Rosh Ha’Shana… well, you’re kinda screwed, aren’t you?  The Hebrew calendar is completely unfamiliar to you.  ((Unless you’ve been reading here, for a while!))  Because the ‘seventh month’ isn’t July, it’s Tishri (pronounced tish-RAY)… and your average Western-programmed person doesn’t jive with that.

The Hebrew months each begin with the new moon.  I’ve written about it a dozen times, I know, but a quick recap:  The Karaite Jews go from the first sighting of the moon in Israel.  The Orthodox Jews use the calendar their head people give them (which sometimes is the same as the Karaite day, sometimes not).  I go by the 1% moon – the first sliver of the new moon, whether you can see it because of cloud coverage or not.  Let’s not insult the ancients in assuming they couldn’t figure out when the first sliver of a new moon would appear, shall we?

We’re in Elul, right now.  Elul is sometime in August, generally speaking, and it’s the LAST month of the Jewish year.  Find the new moon in the beginning or middle of August, you’ve got Elul.  Find the next new moon after that, and you’ve got Rosh Ha’Shana, because it’s Tishri 1… the first day of the new Jewish (spiritual) year.  ((‘Rosh Ha’Shana’ means ‘Head of the Year’, or New Year’s Day, basically.))  So when is the next new moon?  September 16 at 2:11UT

Which is more fun… because how many of you can convert from UT to useable time?  So I went to timeanddate.com and converted 2:11UT to Israel time, and it’s 5:11am on September 16th in Jerusalem.  Why Jerusalem?  Because that’s the Holy City – if Yehovah’s gonna work off a time, it’d be theirs.  So the 0% moon (new moon) is at five in the morning in Israel, which means the evening of September 16th begins Rosh Ha’Shana.  So from sunset the 16th to sunset the 18th, the feast is celebrated.

Next question: when is sunset in Israel?  6:43pm on September 16th.  What time is that for us?  11:43am on Sunday the sixteenth.  Although it’s traditional to just start the celebration at sunset.  However, because I like to reference Israel time, we have our feast (first night) on Sunday, and Tashlich (second night) on Monday, regardless of sunset, here.  But to each their own!

And oddly (and it is odd!), I agree with the Karaite AND the Orthodox dates, this time.  We’re ALL on the same dates, and that doesn’t happen very often.  That actually kind of geeks me, because that’s such a rare occurrence, and for all of us to be in synch?  It’s Divine.  It means we all will celebrate His feasts (all three of them) at the same time this fall.  Maybe for a reason.

So anyhow, now you know what’s coming up, AND when!
As a footnote, I wanted to go on record as saying that the Jewish bloggers quit blogging because their sages/prophetesses were wrong.  They were predicting Mosiach by Tammuz/Av, and they missed it.  I watched them because I wanted to see if they were right or not, same as people did with Mark Blitz when he was wrong, and… well.   More than ever, though, I’m thinking that if it’s to be, it will be this feast season.  The more I read in the news, the more I read in the science sites, the more I see in scripture… I just think this is a very, very possible time, this year.  A Yom Kippur rapture is very possible.

And what of Rosh Ha’Shana?  I don’t know.  My chart says that ‘a reaping of the earth’ would be the next fulfillment of Rosh Ha’Shana.  Here’s something interesting I read this morning at Ure’s site:

While the US has initiated some level of response, redirecting a couple of Navy ships to the Libya area, we still note the US reported ship deployments are at very “thin” levels… But Israel?  A different story entirely.  One reader email sums it up this way:

“My brother and his family live in Jerusalem [redacted] and his office is close to one of Israel’s largest underground military bases. He called me last night which is very unusual – usually it is email. He called to tell me that he is sending his family back to the US immediately due to what he is seeing happen within the last week and what he is being told by his military contacts in both the Israel and US military.

He said he is seeing with his own eyes military movements the likes of which he has never seen in his 20+ years in Israel. What he called a massive redeployment and protective tactics of forces is underway. Over the last two days he has seen anti-aircraft missile deployments throughout the Jerusalem area including 3 mobile units that he can see from his office windows. In addition, he has seen very large Israeli armored columns moving fast toward the Sinai where Egypt has now moved in Armor.

There are reports of the top military leaders meeting with Israel’s Sr. Rabbi which is something that has happened preceding every prior military campaign. His admonition is to watch carefully and pray for Israel and its people. He is convinced that barring something extraordinary Israel will attack Iran – with or without the US – and very soon.

It is the belief in Israel that Obama does not stand with Israel but with the Arab countries. He has told me before that Israel will saber rattle from time to time but that this time is very different from what he is seeing and hearing. He was at the Wailing Wall 2 days ago and there were hundreds of IDF soldiers there. As he was leaving he passed at least 20 military buses full of soldiers in route to the wall. He has never seen this before either.

My brother is not an alarmist by any means. When he talks like this it gets my attention for sure and usually I find he knows more than he shares. There are reports that Israel is asking Obama to come to Israel immediately but they are being answered with silence. My opinion is that I see the making of the perfect storm with Yom Kippur happening on the 25th.”

…If you squint your eyes just so, you can see that both sides are maneuvering to get “back up chess pieces” in place.  If fighting breaks out and Egypt were to try and recover lands lost in the 1973  (the previous Yom Kippur War date) then it is possible to likely that Syrian would support Egypt – and likely now, so would Iran.

…So as a student of chess, this morning, we wonder if the Project for a New American Century which was so warmly embraced by the political right, wasn’t indeed a set-up by Dominionists for their ultimate Biblical showdown in the Middle East?  Slap that timer, would you?  I think the next move is ours.  About the only thing clear is that the game should be over by next summer. With the larger question hanging:  Who will around at The End?

This from an anti-religious person (Ure).  So I am watching, and waiting.  Because as I said, I believe it is VERY plausible that something big is going to happen this feast season!  And it begins Sunday!!

  • I usually plan our Feast meal on the day the Feast starts; Sunday evening in this case – so I’m glad I’m thinking correctly.

And yeah…..something’s about to happen, I feel it.

  • Taking notes over here amidst the choas. Hey BTW I need to pick an out of state contact. I think I am going to go with my friend Gail in Oregon or my stepson in Arizona, but just so y’all know we went to CERT class yesterday and all they could talk about was how totally SCREWEd so Cal is (yeah we all knew that!) So if lots of stuff happens…I am thinking there is a pretty good chance I won’t be here to see it. ::sigh::

  • Been telling ya that for years, darlin’. :vvv:
