  • DAY TWENTY-SIX: Cleaning Blitz!!

There are two (technically three) days left until Rosh Ha’Shana, but with lawn mowing, and carpet cleaning the WHOLE house in there, we’ll call it two.  That’s TWO DAYS left to get my house in order.  And yes, I leave this until the last minute, because (let’s face it) housecleaning tends to un-do itself.  You clean the sink, inevitably something gets thrown in it.  You clean the slider door window, and a kid presses his nose against it.  You clean the bathroom, and somebody misses the can.  ((I have three boys that do this regularly, btw.))  So the REAL cleaning is best left until LAST.

And as un-fun as it is to ‘clean’… doing a cleaning BLITZ is another story.  It’s an insane rush of ‘get everything right as fast as possible’.

What’s on the agenda?  I thought I’d make a cleaning list here, and strike-through the items as I complete them (since – as you can imagine – the blonde is gonna take a few breaks and prob’ly check FB comments, since that’s my happenin’ place!)  So… without further ado:

  • Anna I have been reading your blog for about a year now….did I miss something?  Are YOU the pregger woman?????  :)

  • What on earth are you talking about? HOMIGOSH, I cut/pasted this from several years ago, and didn’t read thru before posting it. LOL!!! Going to edit, RIGHT NOW. ((I’m not preggers. But I heard last night that someone else in my family is…!))

  • lolol!  I see ya fixed it ;)   and btw your cleaning list is inspiring!  I have only managed to scrub half of a floor….but slow and steady I guess.

  • Some comments & questions:

Your postings of the letters you wrote to the lady asking about your beliefs – very helpful.  Lots to think about (and I am!).  I’m studying up on some things now & may have some questions for you.   Did she ever write you back if you don’t mind me asking?

Do your kids go all out & do the cleaning thing in September like you do?  If yes – what types of things do you have them doing?

Question about your “happenin’ place” !  -  is this for your family to keep in touch & maybe close in-real-life friends only?  I love reading your blog here, but I really enjoyed going back through your old posts when one of them would spark a great conversation – with respectful questions from people with opposing views/beliefs.  There would be a questions asked that I had not thought of & I enjoyed seeing your response.  I was just wondering if your FB is like that.

  • 1 – She hasn’t written back. I suspect she’ll take it to her pastor to be sure about what I said. She struck me as that type. Which is good – maybe he’ll think a bit on it, too.

2 – My kids are very into Elul. We blow the shofar every night, pull a chain off our paper countdowns, and we’ve been watching Rosh Ha’Shana videos every day. As for the cleaning, they run errands for me as I work off and on throughout the day. I spread the tasks so everyone has a job – like today I did our bedroom. I found a NERF gun under the bed, a dirty boy shirt behind the chair, and there was two stacks of magazines of Brian’s. So I had the older two kids (Lydia & Isaac) take the stacks downstairs to his ‘work room’, Ethan took the shirt to the hamper, and Aaron took the NERF gun to their room. Then they can go back to their thing until I accumulate another four tasks. Most of it is just running, so I don’t have to (and can do the tougher stuff, like washing walls or dusting furniture).

But I require them to help regularly, anyhow. Everyday they do two five-minute toy scrambles (of the main rooms of the house), they also have critter tending and table setting at ALL meals, and whenever I do clothes folding, they make trips to put everything away for me. And once a week they have to go in and tidy their rooms somewhat. So they participate.

3 – I put a lot more family stuff on FB than I do here. What we’re doing that day (like yesterday was first day of dance for four of five kids, so I recounted the experience there), or funny things the kids say, or links I like/are useful. It’s different stuff from what I put here. Not so spiritual, although I do link to each post as they go public, and sometimes we do talk about topics not mentioned here. :spin:

I suspect if/when the rapture does happen, or if I get sick/die, my FB will be where the information exchange happens, though. That’s where people seem to connect and discuss. Which is why I keep trying to get my friends here to friend me at Facebook (hint, hint, V!!) You’ll want it when/if something happens to me.

  • @Anna - Well I know I’ve just started reading here recently & you don’t know me well enough online to call me a friend, but if it’s ever a possibility I could join your FB page I would love to!  I won’t even comment – I just like to read more about certain bloggers I find interesting.  All though I must say the word that better describes you is intriguing – in a good way, of course lol.  As time goes on if you feel comfortable letting me know how to find your FB, I would love to.  Of course, I am mostly interested in the spiritual stuff (discussions), so if there is not a lot of that there, I will still be very content reading here.

A comment about the “letter lady” – did you say she was in a traditional Christian church? Surely her pastor is not going to go along with anything you said????  You weren’t expecting that, were you? I wonder if what he tells her (if against what you are saying) will cause her to doubt what she must have already been thinking about on her own?  Please keep us posted on this – you prob. don’t run across too many people face-to-face who are questioning their belief system.

  • A) The link to my FB site is on this page – just scroll down anna.xanga.com and on the left will be the link. :kewl:

    B) What happened with the ‘letter lady’ was that I found a DVD rack on Craigslist and drove WAY northeast to go and get it. She has barns and barns full of stuff she gets at estate sales and garage/yard sales, and she has a permanent flea market in her yard. We were browsing the stuff while we were there, and I saw a copy of Ussher’s “Annals of the World” – leather bound, in mint condition, in a case! – for five dollars, and I got SOOOO excited. Her husband (who was walking around with us, trying to talk us into buying things) couldn’t figure out what the deal was with this book, so I explained that Ussher is the guy who took the geneologies of the Bible and put together a timeline of Scripture… and apparently he did it for ALL time, all things, too!

When I mentioned the Bible she came over and said, “Oh, you’re a Christian?” and I told her no, we’re Messianic Jews. Immediately her eyes widened, she put her hands on her hips and demanded, “When was Jesus really born?! Tell me the truth! I know it’s not Christmas, and I hate that I don’t know!” So I told her Sukkot, and she got that ‘WTH?!?’ look, and I had to try to explain to her about the feasts… which of course was a LOT of information, so she asked me to write it down for her and send it to her. That’s how that came about.

  • @Anna - Yes, I recall the story well.  I was very excited to watch for you to post the letters you wrote to her.  I could not remember if she told you she was currently attending a church or not.

*was too lazy to go back & look in the middle of commenting

**would like to say I was too busy, like you, cleaning and preparing my home, but sadly not
