Passover Thoughts
- I was reading this morning that tonight begins the Shabbat before Pesach, and it’s vitally important, because Israel at this point was given permission for each family to sacrifice in the land of Egypt. It was crazy, each family (or two) bringing a lamb into their home. Could you imagine the noise, the preparation, the smell? I never thought about it that way, but this coming week (then) was a crazy-ass week for Israel. Israel symbolic of Yehovah’s own and Egypt symbolic of the world, on a smaller scale of course… and the lamb being symbolic of the Redeemer, whose blood would be shed so that Yehovah’s own would not die.
- Immediately after that atonement – after death had passed – Yehovah’s chosen were led out of the world by the Lord, Himself. This is rough symbolism of the Rapture. They had no idea which direction they were headed, when they were going – it was so fast, they didn’t even have time for the bread to rise, hence the unleavened bread! Is Pesach a potential rapture date? Based on this symbolism… sure!
- The Feast of the Unleavened Bread in the NT is symbolic of being ‘without life’, as flat bread that hasn’t risen is ‘lifeless’… a picture of Messiah three days in the grave, without life. I do not, however, understand why Israel is commanded not to eat yeast for seven days. Shouldn’t it be three, in keeping with the Savior’s time in the grave? Why seven? I tried to look at a timeline of events, but there’s nothing on the seventh day after Pesach, in scripture. Any ideas?
- Everything I’m reading says that we should use the week leading up to Pesach to render ourselves holy unto the Lord. Most messianic sites/teachings, as well as those of the Jewish bloggers, say that this is a time for purification and emuna. I don’t… I can’t grasp this. If Yeshua paid it all on the cross for us, and has washed us both with His blood (Pesach Lamb) and His water (Purification), then it’s taken care of. We’re purified thru Him, and paid for by Him. So exactly what preparation should I be doing? Because frankly, my beliefs are firm, and I can’t think of anything *more* that I should be doing than what I am: trusting, obeying, praying, seeking, watching, listening, and serving. This drives me crazy, because I don’t *get* it.
- Firstfruits follows the Feast of Unleavened bread, as Messiah rose from the dead, the firstfruits of those who will do so in the future. A rapture reference? Absolutely. Several passages in the NT confirm that in no uncertain terms. But we’re still eating unleavened at this point. WHY?!?!?! Unless in the future we’ll be gone and only those left – those without The Life – will be eating unleavened? I don’t know. Just guessing…
- I read yesterday that the March on Jerusalem is still on and growing in intensity. The arab nations (led by Iran) are going to march into Jerusalem. Violence is so expected that – for the first time in years – the Israeli soldiers are being required to be on duty over Pesach. I’ve also read that Iran has abducted Jews living in their country to march at the front of the procession, in an effort to keep Israel from firing on the invaders. It’s kind of like hiding behind children so that you can get in and open fire, most likely starting by shooting those shields in the back. It doesn’t bode well.
- By tradition (and scripture, if you read about John the Baptist’s birth), Elijah is to return on Pesach. This happened with John the Baptist’s birth on Pesach, and will happen again with the appearance of the two witnesses (who are believed to be Moses and Elijah, representing the Law and the Prophets, and who were present at the Transfiguration). They are to appear in Israel, and burn up people with fire from their mouths. This march would be the perfect setting for that – and the perfect timing, as well.

I wonder if the original Passover was tied to the Sabbath and the reason for seven days is just to get to the next Sabbath. So the omer count is attached to the Sabbath also. I am out helping my dad with taxes. This would be an interesting thing to look into. I always think about the lamb or goat coming into the house, all the kids getting attached to it. Everyone getting used to it. Maybe having the lamb watching them everyday made them a little sad knowing they would be killing it in a few more day. PS How is your kinook?
I bought the wrong card. So it’s just Nookish, until I send the wrong chip back and get the right chip from the company. Everything I read said “N2A doesn’t work with Nook Tablet”. So imagine my surprise when I find out that I ordered the chip for Nook Tablet. ((Nook Tablet has a chip, too!?! Yes, why yes, Anna it does. Surprise!))
Could it be that it took seven days to be totally out of the land of Egypt & away from Pharaoh’s reach? – walking to the Red Sea, crossing and the drowning of the Egyptian army would take about seven days. Could it be that after a Rapture it would take today’s modern world that long to run through all the possibilities and admit that the raptured are indeed gone & beyond reach.
After our kindle charged, it took me a few minutes to read through the “owner’s manual”, a few to find the wireless password and about three seconds to download our first book. Maybe your Nook could be for kid’s reading and you could bring yourself to get the basic kindle for you? (cause it’d save a headache so far)
Leaven represents sin, right? Maybe……I’m thinking out loud here…..the 7 days of unleavened bread represent the Wedding Feast? It starts the day after the Lamb is sacrificed….but then He rose on Firstfruits, which is day #2 of UB…..
If Trubies are gone…the “unleavened” are gone, and only the sinners (leavened) are left. Maybe the 7 days are to – wait, Messiah has already cleansed and purified, and removed our leaven, so the 7 days can’t be for Believers……..
I need to think about this….
Where’s the story of Joshua and his army killing men, women and children whilst stealing their homes? Jericho anyone?
Legion – Hey, d’ya think you could at LEAST be relevant? Good grief, that’s annoying… as if you think anyone wants to deal with stupidity at a time like this. :wry:
Stephanie – I’m just waiting on *ONE* chip that will make my Nook into a NooKindle. Then I’ll be fine. We don’t have ‘toys’ that expensive in our house.
Verna – the 7-day wedding feast! :high5: That’s EXACTLY what I was thinking when I got back on and read Stephanie’s comment!! Woot, that! It makes sense, too. I’m not sure what FF means, in light of that. I’ll think s’more, too.
((Next Morning))
Hey, I was thinking… about NT rapture verses:
1…..”For the trump shall sound,
2…..and the dead in Christ shall rise,
3…..and we shall meet them in the air.”
1 Trump: Pesach call to rise up/it’s time to go.
2 Dead in Christ: Unleavened (without life) rise
3 We meet ‘em: Firstfruits of those who shall rise.
It’s the three feasts, in three steps of the Rapture. Is it possible that it happens that way? In steps, like that? And yes, *we* go in the twinkling of an eye when it’s our turn, but it doesn’t say all three of those things happen simultaneously, y’know? That’s one of those things the church jumped to conclusions on.
Just thinking…
@Anna - Maybe that’s why it’s an entire week of unleavened. We’ve spent the week BEFORE Passover preparing ourselves for Passover. I think that the cleansing ourselves is more of a mental process at this point than a physical one, since the sacrifice permanently purified us. Also as a way to be sure that our households are in order and ready (hence getting the leaven out of the house), possibly for those left behind? Then we have seven days AFTER Passover where we are at our “best”, for the possible three stage rapture. The seven days gives everyone time to get out of “Egypt”, so to speak.
Isaiah 66:23 “And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.”
