  • I’m Grateful For:

    • Finally getting our camper listed for sale!  Whew!!
    • Ellie coming right back when we called her last night.  Her cable broke, so now she’s on a shorter chain (until I can get her a new long cable), but at least she didn’t get into trouble.  I don’t like loose dogs.
    • Lydia finished her piano lesson book – that’s tremendous!  Now I have to make a new star chart for the next level… but that’s a good thing!
    • All of the running around for the day completed.  We hit the bank, the grocery store, two libraries, and the post office.
    • Brian’s CNC loan is now officially paid off.  WooT!  If we sell the camper and get rid of that loan, he can get a new truck.  With this loan paid off and the camper listed, we’re two steps closer!
    • I was able to get the dinosaur out of my printer.   Long story, but it ended up so far in there, I had to pull the back off to see it!  Ah, the joys of little children…
    • This amazing craft site I’ve been browsing thru at night while the kids are abed and Brian’s out working in the barn.  It’s given me SO MANY ideas of things to do with the kids, and to do to make our schooling more useful, and to brighten up our home.
    • Sunshine.  The first leaves of the tulips peeking up (they’re a LOT early, though!).  The first sighting of Mr. Robin Redbreast.  First spring walk at the lake.  First day of playing in the yard (after Mama’s winter dog poo de-skank).
    • Brian finished the last of the red-hot side jobs last night (took ’til 11pm… but he seems to love it, so who’m I to balk?).  But I *am* grateful that he’ll be able to spend some time in with me, now, for a few weeks.
    • SOOOOO many free/cheap activities for us, this year.  It’s been insane how many things there are to do, to see, to visit, to try this year, already.  My calendar is booked solid all the way into June – every weekend, and some weeknights!  It’s just crazy.  But fun.  I’m very geeked.  I think it has to do with where we are.  West Michigan just has a LOT of opportunities.  And events.
    • Speaking of, my beautiful state.  Brian’s co-worker went to New Orleans last week with his wife, and said there wasn’t a single nice part of the city to be had.  It’s nasty, dirty, ugly, and there were rats and mice running around in this higher-class restaurant’s outdoor bistro they ate at.  He was disgusted, and hated every bit of the trip… said Michigan is paradise compared to that.  I have to agree.  And I didn’t even have to go down south to know it! ((grins))
    • Firefox’s Sage.  I… have this multi-row toolbar (that’s only one row) and shows only icons… but it’s SOOOOOO long, and I didn’t want that much on the bar… so I downloaded Sage.  It’s… not Flock’s reader (I wish it were!), but it’s another place to put things, and separates my daily blogs from the useful schooling and everyday sites.  Very nice!
    • I found a bunch of envelopes from X-mess (Brian’s grandma has a set amount she puts aside for presents for each kid, and whatever doesn’t get spent, she gives in cash).  It was PERFECT for our money lessons this week.  I don’t keep that many fives, tens, and ones on hand, usually.  ((grins))
    • Color.  I’ve been thinking a LOT about color.  Probably the spring infusion we’re getting, along with the craft sites I’ve been seeing.  But I’m thinking of making colorful entry mats, and maybe painting the house shutters lavender and the entry doors lime green.  Think Brian would let me?  It’d look SOOO nice with our lemon yellow siding…!!  LoL!
    • Too funny… Baby O, while I’ve been typing this, has run from the living room to the parlor, each time carrying one of Aaron’s foam learning letters.  O can’t talk much, but he can repeat every letter name I tell him.  He brought me ‘W’ (green, opposed to “M” which is orange), and I said “That’s ‘W’!”  He said, “Dub-woo”… and ran three feet before he came back and scowled at me.  “W!”  I told him.  “NO!”  He said.  “Yes, it is… that’s ‘W’, honey.”  He shook his head.  “M!”  Holy wOw… he knew that?!  At two?!  That’s amazing!
    • LOTS of fun planned for Irish Green day – including green cupcakes and green candied popcorn!  I’m pretty excited about it, already.
    • A playdate tonight – actually, it’s just us, but it’s so purdy out, we’re gonna take the kids and get subs and go to the park to play.  Sounds like fun to me!

  • I’m jealous of all the activities you have available! I’m glad to hear you are getting some of the wonderful sunshine. It sure makes it hard to stay indoors, doesn’t it? I love Spring, it just doesn’t last long enough in Florida. It wont be long before it’s too hot here to do anything but go swimming and we plan on doing plenty of that.

  • Plenty going on here, but I’ll sort of comment on Owen and the letters (great band name, anyone…?).
Apparently I taught myself to read before going into kindergarten. Mom would read to me while keeping her finger on each word as she went (one on one time was rare, as there were six of us). However long it took (Weeks. Months?)I began saying the words aloud before she could. She was startled/intrigued, and just kept moving her finger along while I read. Just to make sure I wasn’t doing it by rote, she pulled up a book we hadn’t read yet and cracked it open to a random page. Before her finger touched the page I had read out the first sentence to her.
I think Owen is ready for this.
Finger pointing does help in certain situations :wry:
Oh! And if the kids start to read upside down, let them. It’s like a super power :beam:

  • Missy – I keep eyeing our hot tub. If this nice stuff keeps up, we may have to fill it and get it running sooner than later.

  • I LOVE the mat idea! I need to bookmark it!

Owen will probably read early – and if he’s listening to you school the others, he’ll probably move faster thru the elementary levels. I bet he keeps you on your toes, academically (probably Aaron, too, come to think if it)

Not sure about your paint ideas……depends on the yellow. Could look fabulous….or it could look like a Spring Basket. Still……I like the lavender shutter idea.
