In Jane Austen’s World…
You are Elizabeth Bennet of Pride & Prejudice! You are intelligent, witty, and tremendously attractive. You have a good head on your shoulders, and oftentimes find yourself the lone beacon of reason in a sea of ridiculousness. You take great pleasure in many things. You are proficient in nearly all of them, though you will never own it. Lest you seem too perfect, you have a tendency toward prejudgement that serves you very ill indeed.
Hrm… good head, intelligent, witty, beacon of reason in a sea of ridiculousness… pleasure in many things… a bit prejudgmental… okay, so it’s not far off, is it? I can live with that. I could even stand for a bit more of the ‘tremendously attractive’ bit to be injected into my life. But hey, brain is better than beauty, hands down. IMHO, anyhow. ((wink!))
Which Jane Austen Character are You?
(For Females) Long Quiz!!!
You scored as a Elizabeth Bennet
As one of Austen’s most beloved characters, Elizabeth Bennet represents what most women would like to become: strong, independent, and loyal. Of course, she has her faults including a stubborn will of iron and a clinging to first impressions. Overall, Lizzie is bright and lovable…something to admire and aspire to.Elizabeth Bennet 78%
Elinor Dashwood 72%
Charlotte Lucas 59%
Jane Bennet 50%
Lady Catherine 41%
Emma Woodhouse 38%
Marianne Dashwood 32%I ran across these TWO quizzes this morning, and it’s most fitting, because we watched yet ANOTHER version of Pride and Prejudice (or ‘Pride and Pre-Judas’, as a public schoolteacher once insisted) the other night. I’d been looking for it for some time, but Blockbuster didn’t have it. Come to find out, it was buried in the VHS section of my favorite library… a section I didn’t even know existed (it was buried with the encyclopedias… both of which are considered obsolete).
This version (modern) was… LACKING, but Brian really liked it. I’m… not so sure why – I found Darcy to have a mouth frighteningly like my dead grandfather Roland’s, and once he fell for Lizzie, he was completely terrifying as a character. I would’ve run screaming, had I been the eldest Bennet girl… or in this case, the only Bennet girl (as the others were her roommates, not sisters). Not to mention Charles was a DORK who sold Mozart for Dogs CDs and rode a mo-ped. Mary wasn’t just out-of-step, she should’ve been institutionalized, and they ditched the whole Darcy-broke-Jane’s-heart thing (VERY important) for slapstick humor that just didn’t fit. The only thing I liked was the use of colors… only they shifted Lizzie from baby blue to soft green halfway thru with no explanation. ((Brian says I’m too analytical and should give it a rest.))
Anyhow, I even liked Bride and Prejudice better than this one, so save your time and/or money. OTOH, there are still a few versions I have yet to see. The 1940′s one with Lawrence Olivier and Greer Garson, for one. This for another. And I haven’t seen the Keira Knightley one, yet (Darcy pissed me off and we stopped it 20 minutes into the move.. gotta try again.) So far, the Colin Firth one was THE BEST hands down. Nobody does the uncomfortable, stiff, incessantly constipated look like Colin Firth
If they do them period, I love Austen and Shakespearean films. But modern adaptations usually lack. ((Anyone watch She’s The Man… the mod version of Twelfth Night? They made Malvolio’s cross-gartered and pivitol role into a pet spider! And Ten Things I Hate about You… which was Taming of the Shrew? Yeah, I’m sure Lady Katherine would get drunk and do striptease-esque dances on tables at a frat house, right? And now I hear they’ve got Sidney White and the seven Dorks… can’t bring myself to rent that. Sorry.)) I’m currently headed BACK to the period films… I have a version of As You Like It waiting on the entertainment center, and just added Northanger Abbey to my queue on-line. ((That and Mad Max and Bear in the Big Blue House and Across the Great Divide… because I’m eclectic like that…))
… It’s a good thing I have a hubbie who is open to more than Adam Sandler and Jackie Chan…

Oh, joy. Thanks for the heads-up. After checking out the flu condition map of the US, that just tops the cake. :wry:
I LOVE Jane Austen as well. Every time PBS airs one of them I have to watch it! I’ve watched that version of P&P maybe 6 times. :high5:
Aidan woke up with a tummy ache this morning and I’m saying “oh pleeeease don’t let it be the norovirus”
Well DH wasn’t this bad when we were first together .. he says of course that it’s me … but like you said at your premarital sessions … I love Yeshua and I ain’t backing away, only growing closer.
Hrm…this is mine…
Which Jane Austen Character are You? (For Females) Long Quiz!!!
You scored as a Elinor Dashwood
As Marianne’s older sister, Elinor lives at the other end of the emotional spectrum. She rarely reveals her intense feelings and is more concerned with being honest and loyal than having what she deserves. Even though her intentions are pure, she sets herself up for loss by constantly placing other people before her own needs. Overall, Elinor is gentle and rational but is just as capable of radical emotions (despite her withholding them) as her sister.

I watched Bride and Prejudice the other night, and thought it was pretty good.
The 1940 one, if it’s the one I think it is [quick check: yes, it appears to be... goodness, there's a 1938 tv version], I didn’t like at all because Lady Catherine turned out nice in the end! Even I, even at the age of 13, knew this was Bad and Wrong.
The only thing I didn’t like about the Davies/Firth/Ehle version was that they left out “I do hope he’ll forgive my having disliked him so much!”
Haven’t yet seen the Keira Knightley, or the 1980 series.
Is your Northanger Abbey the recent ITV one, also by Andrew Davies? I liked that (even though he left out my favourite line again) – but her vivid imaginings are to some extent played out so you may wish to watch it without the children first (no actual nudity or anything, but lots hinted at).
Mansfield Park with Billie Piper, on the other hand, was terrible.
Which Jane Austen Character are You?
You scored as a Marianne Dashwood
Most girls can relate with Marianne on a more personal level than some of Austen’s other characters. She represents the emotional longings and struggles that seem to attack and bless us at the same time. Loyal to a fault, passionate for experience and life, and a bit over-emotional, Marianne matures and grows (making her so beloved).

I’m too paranoid to take the quiz. I don’t like sharing stuff about me on websites I don’t know about. I truley don’t think anyone cares, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. I guess I need therapy :twitch:
