 Solar n' Polar

To recap briefly, we are looking at events - financial, economic, Biblical, political, and more - that seem to be leading to one specific year: 2012.  Which I find interesting, because in the Six-Month Suggestion, the Tribulation started in 2007, and would read a mid-point in 2010, when the 'covenant' with the Middle East would be broken.  If Matthew 24:22 is correct, the time of Tribulation would be 'shortened', or no one would live through it... which means instead of it going thru until 2014, the end would be before that.  Following?

Now all of this, of course, is irrelevant to me, as I'm a Pre-Wrath Tribber, and after seal five, the Wrath is poured out, and I'm outta here.  HOWEVER, this will probably matter to other people, and I don't just write for me, most of the time, you know.  SO!

Today we look at an interesting article from the NASA site.  And yes, it's from three years ago, but just bear with me on this.  Let's jump in and take a peek, shall we?

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2006/15aug_backwards.htm
August 15, 2006:
On July 31st, a tiny sunspot was born. It popped up from the sun's interior, floated around a bit, and vanished again in a few hours. On the sun this sort of thing happens all the time and, ordinarily, it wouldn't be worth mentioning. But this sunspot was special: It was backward.

"We've been waiting for this," says David Hathaway, a solar physicist at the Marshall Space Flight in Huntsville, Alabama. "A backward sunspot is a sign that the next solar cycle is beginning."

"Backward" means magnetically backward. Hathaway explains:  Sunspots are planet-sized magnets created by the sun's inner magnetic dynamo. Like all magnets in the Universe, sunspots have north (N) and south (S) magnetic poles. The sunspot of July 31st popped up at solar longitude 65o W, latitude 13o S. Sunspots in that area are normally oriented N-S. The newcomer, however, was S-N, opposite the norm. This tiny spot of backwardness matters because of what it might foretell: A really big solar cycle.

Solar activity rises and falls in 11-year cycles, swinging back and forth between times of quiet and storminess. Right now the sun is quiet. "We're near the end of Solar Cycle 23, which peaked way back in 2001," explains Hathaway. The next cycle, Solar Cycle 24, should begin "any time now," returning the sun to a stormy state.

Satellite operators and NASA mission planners are bracing for this next solar cycle because it is expected to be exceptionally stormy, perhaps the stormiest in decades. Sunspots and solar flares will return in abundance, producing bright auroras on Earth and dangerous proton storms in space. Solar Cycles: Past and FutureBut when will Solar Cycle 24 begin?

"Maybe it already did--on July 31st," says Hathaway. The first spot of a new solar cycle is always backwards. Solar physicists have long known that sunspot magnetic fields reverse polarity from cycle to cycle. N-S becomes S-N and vice versa. "The backward sunspot may be the first sunspot of Cycle 24."

It sounds exciting, but Hathaway is cautious on several fronts:

First, the sunspot lasted only three hours. Typically, sunspots last days, weeks or even months. Three hours is fleeting in the extreme. "It came and went so fast, it was not given an official sunspot number," says Hathaway. The astronomers who number sunspots didn't think it worthy!

Second, the latitude of the spot is suspicious. New-cycle sunspots almost always pop up at mid-latitudes, around 30o N or 30o S. The backward sunspot popped up at 13o S. "That's strange."

These odd-isms stop Hathaway short of declaring the onset of a new solar cycle. "But it looks promising," he says.

Even if Cycle 24 has truly begun, "don't expect any great storms right away." Solar cycles last 11 years and take time to build up to fever pitch. For a while, perhaps one or two years, Cycle 23 and Cycle 24 will actually share the sun, making it a hodgepodge of backward and forward spots. Eventually, Cycle 24 will take over completely; then the fireworks will really begin.  Meanwhile, Hathaway plans to keep an eye out for more backward sunspots.

So... if the 11-year sunspot cycle that moves BACKWARDS started halfway through 2006 (6.5), and goes eleven years, then 2006.5 + 11=2017.5.  But we want the PEAK of that cycle, which would be in the middle.  So we want 6.5 plus HALF of 11, or 5.5.  And what is 2006.5 + 5.5?  2012.

I'm noticing a common theme, here... are you?

Now... what does a stormy sunspot cycle mean for us?  And what does the backward thing mean?  Well, a lot of chrischuns have guessed that the rapture would be explained away by 'a polar shift', meaning that the gravitational pull of the earth will be reversed and people with particular chemical make-ups will 'float away' as a result.  Personally, I think that's pretty weird, but then I feel that way about most chrischuns, in general.  Besides, who is going to fall for THAT line, anyhow?  More likely this will be the reason Revelations says a third of the forests will be burned up, that there will be extreme heat and drought and lots of other sun-related issues at the end.

But what's kewl is that NASA is lining up with a 2012 culmination.  George Ure lines up with a 2012 culmination.  Jeremiah lines up with a 2012 culmination.  The Mayans line up with a 2012 culmination.  And so does the six-month suggestion.  And maybe that's not right.  But I'm just sayin'.  If we're commanded to watch, this is the stuff we should be paying attention to, don't you think?

Yay!!! I absolutely LOVE reading your site, whether you are posting about your more personal life or whether you are posting about your religious info. (which by the way, this is really something to sink your teeth into!) I have to say that I have missed your studies. It looks like He's really given you some inspiration, yes?

Oh, and Happy Purim! We actually celebrated it this year (we did it last night since Davo has started a new job). I'm trying to integrate the feasts into our lives, but Davo's got kinda the same...reluctance... that Brian seems to have sometimes. Anyway, I wanted to share a recipe for Hamentaschen that I found at jewfaq.org. It's really good!

Recipe for Hamentaschen

2/3 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup orange juice (the smooth kind, not the pulpy)
1 cup white flour
1 cup wheat flour (DO NOT substitute white flour! The wheat flour is necessary to achieve the right texture!) *Anna, I did substitute and mine came out fine*
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
Various preserves, fruit butters and/or pie fillings.
Blend butter and sugar thoroughly. Add the egg and blend thoroughly. Add OJ and blend thoroughly. Add flour, 1/2 cup at a time, alternating white and wheat, blending thoroughly between each. Add the baking powder and cinnamon with the last half cup of flour. Refrigerate batter overnight or at least a few hours. Roll as thin as you can without getting holes in the batter (roll it between two sheets of wax paper lightly dusted with flour for best results). Cut out 3 or 4 inch circles.

Put a dollop of filling in the middle of each circle. Fold up the sides to make a triangle, folding the last corner under the starting point, so that each side has corner that folds over and a corner that folds under.Folding in this "pinwheel" style will reduce the likelihood that the last side will fall open while cooking, spilling out the filling. It also tends to make a better triangle shape.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 15-20 minutes, until golden brown but before the filling boils over!

Traditional fillings are poppy seed and prune. But we used Nutella, blackberry preserves (which were GREAT), and cherry pie filling.
The number of cookies this recipe makes depends on the size of your cutting tool and the thickness you roll. I used a biscuit cutter and rolled them kind of thick. They turned out really good and they kept uncovered overnight and still taste great.

(sorry this is so long, I know you have a limit not to exceed your post, but I couldn't resist sharing!)

Isn't there a significance to transits of Venus in Biblical astronomy? because Venus is due to have another one in June 2012. I remember reading posts about Venus & its importance but that was back when Herb was alive and the astronomy site was free. Does that work with all the other goings on?

I remember posting something in a comment here back in...June, I think, about the Sun reversing polarity - we went to the Mt. Davis Observatory, and the astronomer mentioned it, said it was "important", then dropped it.

Thanks for posting this!

How cool, thanks for sharing this.  Pastor Don also feels the times are close and there is a lot happening in 2012, although we can't pick exact date and time, but there are also a lot of blood moons happening.

Found my notes!  It was June 20, 2008 that I posted - the astronomer said that the sun reverses polarity every 10 or 12 years, but last year (2008) it had some sunspots that were the *wrong* polarity - "Not unexplained" she said "but a bit odd"...and she never explained them.  (It's been nagging at me...so I went on a search and find mission.)
