Happy Purim!
We all got up and put on costumes this morning…
and they really surprised me with their ideas!
Lydia the Zebra… VERY unexpected!Isaac is ‘Moshe the Oofnik does Haman’ from the Shalom Sesame Purim video. Moshe the Oofnik is the Jewish version of Oscar the Grouch, and he dresses as Haman for Purim. Wonder if he’ll do Moshe’s song for the PurimSpiel they have planned for this evening…
Ethan is the Sheriff of Bloodshy
(Don Knotts’ character)
from Disney’s “Hot Lead and Cold Feet”
very inventive and unexpected.
He’s sunk in imaginary quicksand
three times today, already.((I’m just glad he didn’t choose
Ariel from ‘The Tempest’. We watched
that play for ‘Shakespeare Sunday’,
and he tried to dress as Ariel the next day…
loincloths are NEVER a good idea.
Just sayin’.))While Aaron is Dashel Robert Parr… aka Dash, from Disney’s ‘The Incredibles’. Which is actually funny, because of all my kids, Aaron plods along slowest.
Halfway thru the day, he decided he loved Ethan’s moustache… but Dash doesn’t have a moustache. So he had to change to something else… and wound up an ‘army guy’.
Owen’s favorite costume is his Crookshanks outfit from Halloween, so we did him up again. He’s absolutely thrilled with it… especially the tail. Owen likes having a tail. For Halloween, we do a family theme and wear stuff that goes together. But for Purim (which, btw, is pronounced POOR-im, not Pure-Eeme) it’s anything goes. You can be whatever you can think up. It’s all individual.
And yes, Brian and I have costumes, too. I’m sitting here, typing while dressed as Little Red Riding Hood (hood on… it’s more authentic that way) and Lydia has created a King costume for Brian, complete with very carefully drawn jewels on his crown for tonight!
Brian won’t wear his until he comes home from work, of course, so I don’t have a picture of that, and I’m NOT having my pic taken today (that’d mean putting in contacts, and I’m far too lazy at this moment in my life to bother gussying up for a photo), but here’s the picture from the last time I wore this costume… back in 2007, when we went to a costume wedding reception (on Halloween). And yes, that’s Brian as the Big Bad wolf. It was fun. And so is pulling it back out and wearing it today. ((grins))No school today – we’re going to make Purim cards for the penpals (in the shape of Hamantashen – ‘Haman’s Pockets’) and we’ll be decorating up the house for our feast this evening. On Purim we have Tortellini, as it’s symbolic of Yehovah, who is hidden in the Purim story just as there’s cheese hidden in the tortellini. ((Esther is the only book in the Bible that Yehovah isn’t mentioned in, so He’s there, but hidden!)) Then I’ve heard whispers about a PurimSpiel – a presentation by the kids… and we’ll watch VeggieTales’ “Esther” and bang our groggers (noisemakers) and boo whenever we see Haman, and cheer every time Mordecai appears on the scene. What a fun day!!
Hag Purim Sameach!

That sounds like so much fun. I wish we were celebrating today, but everyone is just too sick. Maybe we can participate tomorrow. Enjoy the show!
Hag Sameach! I took a page from you, and bought donuts today. Our store didn’t have jelly-filled ones (not sure why?), so I got creme-filled ones, instead. Yummy, and easy. Thanks for the idea!
Cait is costumed, Ian and I am not. I should – I still have my Ren-stuff out. :ponders: Maybe tonight….
What a fun day! Your children are so fun and creative – just like you! Blessings to you all….Q.’
