I have read some disturbing things this week... including a really unexpected YouTube video by Ron Paul, saying that we're hurting "those poor Palestinians" and that Israel is aggressive and nasty and yadda yadda.

I may be preaching to the choir, but I wanted to clarify a few things.  First of all, Gaza is ISRAEL's land.  They were given it when they became a state.  Second of all, there *IS* no Palestinian nation.  The people who call themselves 'Palestinians' are actually a mix of Iraqis, Iranian, and other Arabic and Middle Eastern people who were squatting in Israel during the exile who won't get out, now.  They're mostly terrorists, and they chose the name Palestine because it's the modern day version of the word Philistine - which they knew would piss Israel off.

I also want to point out that Israel DOES NOT attack Gaza unless they are targeted first.  Palestine opens fire on innocent Israelis in school yards, restaurants, and public places.  Israel ONLY retaliates, hitting targets they know house militant bases, munition holdings, and Hamas headquarters.  If Palestinian civilians are injured it's because the terrorists have purposely used those people as shields, and are trying to make Israel look as bad as THEY - the Palestinians - really are.

I'm sick to DEATH of the 'poor Palestine', poor Gaza crap I'm seeing in the news.  And I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of that now that our country is going the Democratic, bleeding heart route.  Palestine killed 6000 innocent Israelis.  What would WE do if Mexico shot missiles over and killed 6000 Texans?  I'll tell you one thing - it wouldn't be "poor Mexico", now would it?!

While I'm not entirely sure we should be providing support to Israel (I'm still mulling non-interventionalism) - I'm not sure we should support or be involved in ANYTHING over there, since we haven't got our own shit in order and it's not our business (and it only makes for trouble to stick your nose in other people's business)... in spite of all of that, I still had to clarify who is the bad guy in the scenario.

And it's NOT Israel.

I have been hearing this, too... how bad Isreal is... wondering about their side and what we are NOT hearing. Thanks for posting this.

I TOTALLY agree!!! I have heard SO many people coming to the defense of the Palestinians, but what about the Israelis who endure bombing after bombing for YEARS before retaliating?! The media is so imbalanced.

This is one of the few things that has bothered me about Ron Paul - aside from his stance on Israel, I've always liked him. And I have to chuckle about your analogy re: Mexico and Texas. I know it was to illustrate your point (and you did so very well), but Mexico will never send missiles into Texas because there's too many illegal Mexicans working in Texas. So I think we're safe from that one threat. :crosseye:

AhhhhhhhhHHHahhhhhh  The sound of the choir singing.

Hamas stations their headquarters (or whatever you want to call it) under hospitals and other such places and they use women and children as shields.  What is Israel supposed to do?  The people in Gaza have known about Hamas and what they do and what they are capable of and yet they stay.  If you're not with me you're against me.  I suppose the people of Gaza have been with Hamas?  In any case terrorist are populating the world, spreading, and this could be us in the future as 'we the peeps' seem to just get more tolerant and accepting of other religions.  It boils my blood that Israel is expected to sit there and do nothing about rockets being shot at them on a daily basis.:madd

Re: The support of Isreal......God has said that he will bless those who bless Israel, and curse those who curse Isreal.  I take it that my providing monetary support to Israeli causes blesses them.... (Granted, I'm not donating money to arms dealers, just an orphanage, but still....:p )

I just can't believe all the "poor Palestinians" stuff going on....

My family is in total agreement with what you have said.  DH (dear hubby) and I were talking about it the other day.

I'm torn - 'blessing' doesn't mean monetary. This day and age seems to think that's THE meaning, but I don't agree... like I said, still mulling non-interventionalism and Israel, personally.

Yes, but that does not mean that *all* Palestinians are terrorists! There is a real struggle for turf over there, and from what I'm seeing on the news both sides think they are better than the other. One side says 'well they are targeting neighborhoods, we don't do that'. Like it's ok to kill them just so long as the killing isn't done in neighborhoods. :bang: The other side says 'well, yes we do, because that's where the terrorists are hiding! But at least we aren't using the big explosive war heads like *they* are. They hurt more with their bombs and we are just trying to get our message across' I don't think there will *ever* be peace in the middle east. It's been going on for 3000+ years. Nothing stops it. And yes, I agree that Israel should defend itself! I'm just hating all the labels when they say *everyone* over on that side is a terrorist or one guy on a blip said that *all* Iranians hate Americans and would just as soon kill us. That's like saying *all* Americans hate Iranians... umm no. Not me. I betcha there are a few Palestinians that wouldn't appreciate being called terrorists too! Clear as mud, ya? But I hope you get what I'm trying to say.

Think about it, though. Say Michigan is a terrorist state. I live in Michigan. While that does NOT make me a terrorist, don't you think I'd be getting the HECK out of dodge and disassociating from the terrorist state so that I'm NOT a target - inadvertent or not? So I can't help wonder just how 'innocent' the innocents are. And they've had a LOT of time to get out. Years.

@Anna - You're right, "blessing" doesn't necessarily (and...I can't spell today!) mean monetary - but it's the best I can do right now.  I can't go and physically help them - I do pray for Israel, but I keep getting the urge to do something tangible.  So...money it is.

@Anna - You say that about the people being able to get out.. but think of those who have no choice.  Women and Children mostly.  I am sure not all men are terrorists either, but do think of the women and children in the situations.  They cannot simply "get the HECK outta dodge" as you say.

Confused: I *was* thinking of women in my scenario... I happen to BE one, thanks. :twitch: Why do (potentially first time) idiots come here and NOT think and assume that chicks are stOOpid and weak and helpless? What IS that?

Newbie: No controversial comments allowed on your first visit. Which is why I deleted you. Read the rules at the top of the screen, dude...

I understand what you are saying, but I think it is a bit harder to get out of dodge in Israel than it would be to simply cross the boarders here in the states. I have often heard of people overseas being amazed that we here in the US don't have to show papers and documents at every boarder. I can see someone moving their family as far away from the fighting as possible. But really how long do you expect them to live displaced? It would pretty much have to be a lifestyle over there, so you wouldn't be associated with the 'terrorist' I'd guess. :twitch:

Hope this doesn't count as controversial. I have no idea what the deleted people say to get a thumpin (besides being a first time visitor and not reading the rules).

It was Cain who asked, "Am I my brother's keeper?" When we ask if we should sideline ourselves we are asking the same question, are we not?

I hope you don't mind, but this comic was so good I'm going to post it tomorrow.
